History
The Mountain Winds Community Band was founded in 2011 by directors Bob Buckner and Jon Henson. The band has served as the only community band in Jackson County since its inception and draws its members from most of Western Carolina. The age range of our players is between 13 years old and 80+ making our membership very diverse.
We are proud to have performed in many WNC communities including Bryson City, Waynesville, and Highlands while giving the majority of our concerts in Sylva or Cullowhee. Our season runs from November – June consisting of 4-5 concerts.

Our mission is to foster musical appreciation in our community through various performing opportunities and to provide musical enjoyment and growth among our membership.
Purpose
The purpose of the Band is to provide a place for individuals to continue their experience in music and to provide concerts for the community’s benefit and enjoyment. The Band is organized exclusively as a charitable and educational organization that will function solely as a non-profit organization.
